We survived week 1!

BIG yawn :)
We have made it through week 1 of having two children! Maternity leave with two children is definitely much different than maternity leave with one child!  We had Addi's 1 week appointment today and she weighed in at 6lbs 11.5oz., so she is .5oz away from being back at her birth weight. yay!
Here is a little look into our first week home as a family of 4 :)
This is where we spend most of our mornings.... Addi sleeping and Ty and mommy playing trains
Lack of sleep = naps on the couch after work
Ty made a bed on living room floor and wanted to tuck his animals AND Addi into bed. She looks like a little doll!
Nothing better than a sleeping baby

We took our first trip to Kzoo when Addi was 5 days old to visit my grandma.  She was just diagnosed with cancer, and this was really a special moment for all of us to be together!
My parents surprised us and visited the weekend Addi was born! I was SO excited to see them! I'm lucky to have my mom coming back in a week or so to help out for a couple of days!

Welcome Baby Addilyn!

Addilyn Grace Vande Guchte
6lbs 12oz
19 inches
Welcome Addilyn Grace VandeGuchte! It's taken me a few days but I'm finally getting this post up! Addilyn made her debut fast and furious and although we were "ready", we were still surprised!  Nate and I were just falling asleep around 10:30 on Tuesday night when I started having some contractions that seemed to be stronger than the ones I'd had in the last few weeks.  I got up and decided to walk around to see if that would help them subside.  After about 45 minutes of walking around, laying down, timing, and deciding if this was it, I decided to wake Nate.  You'd think I'd have awoken him sooner, but I thought I could just "get over them" haha.  At this point it was 11:15 and I knew it was time to think about getting to the hospital.  I woke up Nate and told him to immediately call his sister to come watch Ty.  Kelsi arrived and we were on our way.  The ride to the hospital was probably the worst part of the night, it was a long 15 minutes....  we arrived at the hospital at midnight, and finally got to our room and checked at 12:15, and I was 9cm! The only thing holding baby girl back from coming was that my water hadn't broken, but no worries, not shortly after it broke all over Nate's shoes :) HAHA. At that point, we were ready to go! The doctor finally arrived and 4 contractions later and at 12:42 a.m., Miss Addilyn was here! From start to finish, my labor was about 2 hours 10 minutes, she was not joking around about getting here!

We feel so blessed to have Addilyn home with us. She is about 6lbs 7oz. now, so we are slowly gaining weight back :) Everything looked great at our 24 hour check up at the doctors and we go back in 1 week to see how she is doing with her weight gain.  Most likely she will be having an ultrasound in 4 weeks to check out some hip clicking/instability with one of her hips.  The doctor is pretty sure that the test will come back normal, but just something we want to stay on top of.

Now we are home and we are trying to adjust being a family of 4! Ty has his good and bad moments.  He wants to be by Addi a lot but we are working on how to be "gentle" with Addi.  When Addi gets changed, he wants to help get her diaper, and then he thinks that he has to be changed as well.  :) He likes giving her kisses, saying "you're okay Addi" when she is crying, and letting her borrow bear when she cries.  He does struggle, especially when I have to feed Addi.  I've taken him out on a little mommy and Ty outing each day which he is always excited about.

Addi, you are 6 days old.....
you weigh 6lbs 7oz....
you sleep 2.5 - 3 hours at a time at night....
you remind us of a little bird with your little legs, and the way you stretch your neck out when you are hungry and the sound of your cry....
you swim in your newborn outfits.....
 you love to be swaddled....
and you are the perfect addition to our little family.

38 Weeks!

Well, at this point in my pregnancy with Ty, I was in labor. It's hard since I went two weeks early with Ty to not be in the "ready" to go mood. It's almost like I have thought in the back of my mind that I'd go just as early with this little one. I know I could very well still have another 2-3 weeks left, but I really hope not. I'm unbelievably exhausted at the end of each work day, only to get home and have to chase the Ty man around for a couple of hours. Although the only thing I really want to do these days is crash on the couch, I am really trying to cherish these last few days with Ty being our "only child". Nate and I say daily, "Ty is such a cool little man, or Ty is the best, or I can't get over how much I love that little guy", and it's hard to imagine and sometimes it's hard to comprehend how another one is going to slip right into the mix. Despite those thoughts, I know God has placed her in our family for a reason and she will be the perfect addition. We are just anxious to know God's plan of when she'll decide to join us!

Here's hoping baby girl comes before I can do a 39 week post :)

Spring Break

We have had a blast this week. It definitely is a plus with both of us being teachers and having the week off together. We got to enjoy some family time, get some projects done around the house, and simply just be lazy :) I will officially be 37 weeks tomorrow, FULL TERM, so it was nice for us to have this time to spend 1:1 time with Ty. He is at such a fun age and both of us have talked numerous times about how much we enjoy playing with him. His vocabulary is exploding and everyday we seem to be in awe of the phrases he'll put together. Some of them which make us laugh and others we question where he ever learned it from. Here is just a small peak at our fun week!

Kelly and I took the kiddos to Fredrick Gardens to see the butterflies. Ty was much more interested in looking at the butterflies from far away, going through the tunnel, checking out the waterfall, and crossing the bridges. He was actually a little bit scared when butterflies would fly too close! Of course, Ty and Taylor loved spending time together, and they thought it was about the best thing in the world to be riding in the same car together. I don't think they stopped jabbering the entire 40 min. to the gardens.

Ty also has mastered eating cereal without creating a huge mess. He has to finish his milk in the bowl so I taught him how to finish it off by drinking from the bowl. He thought it was the coolest thing ever and would yell "I did it!" everytime he finished it off.

I have been craving chocolate milk the last couple weeks and finally gave in and gave Ty some. I was nervous that he'd only want chocolate milk so I had held off on giving him some. He LOVED it! Thankfully, he still likes his white milk too :)

Of course, we had lots of park adventures this week!

We also had a fun visit with Uncle Matt & Aunt Sara. Ty was very excited to see them. They also brought their dog, Stella, who was quite the ball of energy! Ty liked her for the most part, but did not like when Stella tried to take Bear, Elmo, or Teddy.

It's hard to believe spring break is done! It definitely got me looking forward to lots more family time this summer (and we'll be a family of FOUR! AH!).
